Use case - Jones Plastic
Customer story
Jones Plastic: from CAD to convincing, testable prototypes
Louisville, Kentucky, USA · Custom injection molding · 2,500+ employees
Jones Plastic helps customers move from concept to production-ready parts. CAD renderings often fail to communicate color, texture, transparency or functional performance before expensive tooling. The company added Stratasys PolyJet (incl. J826™) and ToughONE™ to its in-house lab. Source & credit: Stratasys. SEIDO Systems: Stratasys Platinum Partner Benelux, France, Nordics.
The challenge
Customers need realistic validation before tooling. Traditional methods and renders alone slow decisions and raise late-change risk.
The approach
A digital chain connects 3D CAD, KeyShot, 3MF and PolyJet printing. Result: full color, texture, transparency, fine detail and combinations of rigid and soft-touch materials in one print. Plus Pantone workflows with a spectrophotometer, 3D scanning/reverse engineering, and ToughONE for functional prototypes.
Color choice with a physical prototype
For a customer choosing between color variants, Jones Plastic printed a prototype in Pantone 644C and a textured plaque via KeyShot + PolyJet, matched with a spectrophotometer.
Functional validation (sporting goods)
A frame prototype failed with Vero and Digital ABS. With PolyJet ToughONE the functional prototype could be made in-house, then painted to customer spec — without outsourcing, with a shorter lead time.
Impact
- Visual and functional prototypes in-house
- Faster iterations and clearer customer feedback
- Less outsourcing of functional prototypes
