Better properties of Antero materials in Z direction
Stratasys adjusts nozzle design for Fortus 450mc and F900 for better properties of PEKK filaments
The Antero Getting PEKK-based materials on the Stratasys Fortus 450mc and F900 printers even better mechanical properties. With the new T20F nozzle, the tensile strength in the Z direction improves by 14% and the bending strength by 34%. Stratasys now supplies Antero 800NA and Antero 840CN03 as certified material, which is fully traceable down to raw material level.
The Antero filaments for Stratasys' industrial FDM printers are already used in many high-quality applications. Aircraft manufacturer Boeing added the thermoplastic to the Qualified Products List (QPL) in 2020 for, among other things, applications that require high chemical resistance or for which high requirements apply with regard to material fatigue. This allows MRO companies, for example, to use both Antero filaments for 3D printing of certified spare parts.
Better heat distribution
Stratasys improves the mechanical properties of these PEKK-based filaments by replacing the T20D nozzle of the Fortus 450mc and F900 with the T20F model. The difference between the two models is a smaller plate behind the Teflon shield in the tip of the print head. This ensures that the thermal mass is better distributed. This translates into better adhesion of the layers, which leads to a higher tensile strength in the Z direction. Anyone who already has an F900 or Fortus 450mc 3D printer at home only needs to change the nozzle to print end parts with improved mechanical properties. However, recent versions of GrabCAD Print are required for both 3D printer models.
Certificate included
The better mechanical properties increase the number of applications of both Antero filaments. Even more heavily loaded parts are now eligible for printing. Stratasys therefore raises the status of Antero 800NA and Antero 840CN03 (ESD properties) up to so-called Certified Grade. This means that a certificate is sent with every roll of Antero filament that provides insight into the raw materials in this filament. For each lot number, the raw materials can be traced upstream to the base.
