Post-processing SAF H350 prints
Stratasys and DyeMansion industrialize post-processing SAF H350 prints
New workflow opens the door to high-volume production with Stratasys powder bed 3D printer SAF H350
The breakthrough of 3D printing as a production technology can only really get underway if post-processing of the parts is done mechanically. Stratasys has joined forces with DyeMansion for this. Together they develop a solution for parts printed on Stratasys' industrial powder bed printer, the SAF H350, can be reworked by machine, including surface improvement.
“The future of industrial 3D printing starts here,” says Felix Ewald, Co-Founder & CEO of DyeMansion about the alliance with Stratasys. The company develops and builds post-processing systems for industrial 3D polymer printers, such as those from Stratasys. This allows companies to take the step towards industrial production with 3D printing because they significantly reduce the manual labor factor in the entire process.
Platform around Stratasys SAF H350
DyeMansion and Stratasys are currently developing a complete workflow for post-processing parts that Stratasys' new SAF H350 printer prints. This is not about one machine, but about a complete platform. The combination of the new powder bed printer H350 and DyeMansion's Print-to-Product workflow creates an industrial production concept that allows plastics processing companies to take the step towards series production with the SAF H350 printer can make. The SAF H350 prints thousands of plastic parts (PA11) in consistent, high quality. With the DyeMansion post-processing system, removing the powder, making the surface chemically smoother and liquid-tight and possibly coloring the parts becomes a highly automated process.
Two finishing qualities
Users can choose between a semi-gloss finish, with a homogeneous scratch-resistant surface, or a functional surface. The latter is completely closed. The products are washable, but do not have the aesthetically high finish of a semi-gloss surface. Applications can be found in parts for the interior of cars, glasses and other consumer products, medical equipment, shoe soles and in industrial components, including for mechanical engineering. The latter group of users can significantly reduce their costs with SAF printing technology because they print plastic parts on-demand and no longer have to maintain stocks of products purchased elsewhere.
High-quality high-volume applications
“Together we can build best-in-class solutions to enable high-quality and high-volume applications in various industries with SAF technology,” concludes Felix Ewald. In the future, specific solutions will be developed for different applications in the alliance that Stratasys and DyeMansion have entered into. Stratasys Direct will start using the reference solution next fall. As soon as this setup is operational, interested parties can take a tour or on-site workshop about the total production concept of the two companies.
